My apologies if I have been neglecting KL Mall. It has been a busy year and finally found some time during Hari Raya to do some work on the web site.
We will be putting our Ubuntu support services and some technology products will be put on sale.
We will also be bringing more technology news which are of great interest to us such as broadband (wired and wireless), linux and website development.
In the wireless broadband, we have another new entrant that has put up their wireless broadband network on trial. PacketOne or P1 has launched their wimax wireless broadband last month. As some of you will recall, P1 has a wifi network around the Klang Valley and they have started to moved to Penang and perhaps a few other locations. Those who have been following P1 which is owned by GreenPacket, would know that they had previously launched broadband services such as SonMetro. Our understanding is that it was a failure and hence the shift to a Wifi and Wimax service. Hopefully they will have more success in this area.
Other contenders doing Wimax are YTLE, RedTone and AsiaSpace. Besides the Wimax operations, Izzinet had launched their service way back in July 2007. U-Mobile has a broadband service and the cellular mobile service but it is not a GSM service.
The GSM operators offering a wireless broadband services are Celcom and Maxis. Digi with its Edge service are a bit too slow to be considered seriously to be broadband.
Izzinet is running a wireless broadband service based on IEEE 802.20 otherwise known as iBurst. Currently in the Klang Valley, they have proven to be the wireless broadband leader in the Klang Valley. We hope to see them rolled out their service in other parts of the country.
The coming months and years will be exciting time for the broadband industry in Malaysia as the operators fight for market share. We can expect to see some consolidation.
It looks like Telekom Malaysia is moving ahead with it wired broadband service. Expect to see sped of up to 10 Mbps and above being offered once there is some decent fibre in the ground. It looks like the TM rollout will be a mixed of Fibre-to-the-Kerb and ADSL2+.
