We closed this CALL credit spread and bought it back for $0.05. Overall, it was a small profit to be redeployed for the next trade.

8 December 2015

We sold a monthly CALL credit spread at 2135/2145 for $1.10. The total Return-on-Risk for this new trade is 1.10/8.90 = 12.36 % excluding transaction cost. The PUT credit spread was closed for $1.75.

We sold a monthly PUT credit spread at 2015/2005 for $1.15. The total Return-on-Risk for this new trade is 1.15/8.85 = 13.00 % excluding transaction cost. Expiration is at 9:30 am, 18 December 2015 (EST)

18 October 2016 – Earnings season off to good start

The major indices gapped up pre-market and the market traded upward till the last hour of the day. Stocks largely closed higher in a day when the pre-market was extremely strong but the rally was sold into.

The dollar index gapped down but closed positive for the day. It is still in an uptrend.

WTI crude futures is back to trading above US$ 51 per barrel. Gold and Silver had a positive day.

Bond futures (ZB) traded positive for the day and looks to be consolidating.

Dow Transportation gapped up and surged upward in the first twenty minutes of trading but was met with a deluge of selling. It came under selling pressure throughout the day and closed with a bearish inverted hammer candle below its 21 EMA. Momentum remains downward. Volumetric buying pressure is at 8.9%. The index is in a monthly Squeeze.

Dow Industrial gapped up on market open but was met with a deluge of selling orders. It range traded throughout the day and closed with small doji candle on its 8 EMA and below its 21 EMA. Momentum remains downward. Short term volumetric buying pressure is at 43.4%. The index is in a daily and monthly Squeeze.

Russell 2000 shot upward on market open and traded bullishly upward throughout the day. It met with selling pressure in late afternoon and closed with an inverted hammer candle below its 8 EMA. Volumetric buying pressure is at 0%.

Nasdaq 100 gapped up on market open and came under selling pressure in the first hour and half of trading. It surged upward at mid-morning till late afternoon when it was met with mas selling to close with a small bearish candle above its 21 EMA. Momentum is neutral. Volumetric buying pressure is at 64%. The index is in a monthly Squeeze.

S&P 500 gapped up on market open and traded up and down throughout the day to close with a doji candle on its 8 EMA but below its 21 EMA. Momentum is downward. Volumetric buying pressure is at 31.3%. The index is in a daily and monthly Squeeze.

Metals and Commodities
WTI Crude oil futures had a good day and painted a daily bullish marubozu candle above its moving averages. It is trading at $51.12 per barrel.

Gold futures is trading at $1263.9 per ounce and and is hovering around its 200 SMA. Momentum is downward.

Silver futures is trading at $17.655 per ounce just above its 200 SMA and on its 8 EMA but below its 21 EMA in sideways trading.

Agriculture (DBA) ETF closed at 20.27 with an inverted hammer candle above its 21 EMA but below its 50 SMA. Momentum is reversing to a bullish bias.

Commodities (DBC) ETF traded upward and closed at 15.31 in sideways action above its moving averages.

Bonds
Bond futures (ZB) traded sideways at 164’12.

High Yield bond ETF (HYG) gained for the day and closed at 87.09 above its moving averages. Momentum remains upward.

Bonds ETF (TLT) closed with a bullish marubozu candle at 132.86 below its moving averages. Momentum remains downward.

Currencies
The dollar index traded sideways and is trading at 97.895 above its moving averages.

EUR/USD traded down and closed with a small bearish in a continuing downtrend. It is trading at 1.09764. It is still in a sharp downtrend.

USD/JPY traded sideways and is trading at 103.835.

Relative Strength – Sectors
On a monthly lookback, the relative strength order of the ETFs that are outperforming the S&P 500 are XLE, XLU, XLF, XLB, XLK, XLV and XLI respectively.

On a 3-month lookback, the relative strength order of the ETFs that are outperforming the S&P 500 are XLE, XLK, XLU, XLF, XLB, XLV and XLI respectively.

Market Internals
Vix closed at 15.28. Vix futures is at 16.58 and is in a Squeeze. Skew is at 122.76. Market sentiment is bullish. Market breadth continues to slope downward showing nett losers compared to gainers. Volumetric accumulation/distribution is sloping upward.

The Week Ahead
Earnings season is off to a good start but investors continue to sell the rally. The major indices had huge upmoves pre-market and the rally was sold into. It still traded positive for the day. Market internals is showing mix signals. The prognosis is for continued volatility.

The Stock of the Day is FSLR. First Solar is a provider of photovoltaic (PV) solar energy solutions. The company designs, manufactures and sells PV solar modules with thin-film semiconductor technology and also develops, designs, constructs and sells PV solar power solutions.
